HOLDUP in the HOOD is both a personal and communal exploration of self. It concerns the identity of self that comes with the realization of making one’s mark. The photographs in this series are taken from a larger body of work that documents an after-school, collaborative arts curriculum rooted in self-portraiture. They incorporate drawings, re-cycled photographs, print media and body gesture to explore issues of identity including: race, class and gender.”

NEWS & COMMENTARY
Two images from the HOLDUP series were recently selected by Reto Thuring, Curator of Contemporary Art, Cleveland Museum of Art and Program Director at the Transformer Station in Cleveland for inclusion in the 45th Annual at the Hoyt Institute of Fine Art just north of Pittsburgh. Both are from a subseries in the overall body of work that I call the "YES" series. There are another five images in this set. The exhibition runs through May if you are in the area.
